Palm Beach County'sMost Fun & Friendly Golf Experience
Architect Joe Lee
“Gentleman Joe Lee” earned a reputation as a southern gent who designed and built player-friendly golf courses around the world including, Palm Beach National Golf and Country Club. His courses are known to challenge all levels of golfers.
Mr. Lee designed and renovated more than 250 courses, first working alongside noted architect Dick Wilson. Among his more famous PGA tournament courses are Doral’s Blue Monster, LaCosta, Bay Hill, Cog Hill (Western Open) and Warwick Hills (Buick Open).
Mr. Lee and his wife Jinny resided at Palm Beach National and were best friends with course owner Bob Rich and his wife Vicki. Jinny remains close with the Rich’s as well as her extended family at Palm Beach National.
Mr. Lee worked closely over the years with Palm Beach National Superintendent Mark Jarrell, constantly improving the golf course, including a two-year renovation program, re-grassing greens with new TifEagle ultradwarf bermuda grass, new white sand bunkers and several re-grassed tees and fairways. Not changes – improvements!
As a tribute to his love of Palm Beach National, Mr. Lee insisted that Mr. Rich accept his gift to bulkhead the entire length of our lake-lined 18th hole. In October 2002, Palm Beach National honored Mr. Lee’s memory with a bronze monument on this hole.
